The City of Kogarah is a Local Government Area in southern Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. The centre of the city is located 14km SSW of the Sydney central business district and west of Botany Bay.
The city is part of the St George area, which contains Kogarah, Hurstville and Rockdale.
The City of Kogarah was established on 22 December 1885 and is bounded by the Illawarra Railway line, Georges River, Rocky Point Road, Princes Highway and Harrow Road.

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, Kogarah had a population of 53,200 in 2002. As a very diverse suburb, a large portion of Kogarah's population is made up of Anglo-Celtic Australians, Macedonians, Greeks, Italians, Chinese, Indians, Lebanese.
Kogarah City Council is composed of twelve councillors elected proportionally. The municipality is divided into four wards, each electing three councillors. The mayor is not directly elected.[2] The current makeup of the council is as follows:[2]
